The Rules (So Far)
Each month’s project will go from the first to the last of that month. From the time a project (list of prompts) is posted, participants have thirty (or thirty-one, and sometimes twenty-eight) days to complete one or more of the options offered.
Originally, prompts were posted on the 15th, but an informal poll of the original posters suggested that new prompts going up on the first was a better idea. I thought I’d edited all guidelines to reflect this, but may not have. Please note, however, that because some of you read the original guidelines, I will still accept submissions for any given month through the fifteenth of the next.
Prompts should not be combined. Each prompt should be a separate work, and a separate entry in your blog. You may, however, complete as many prompts as you like, and you are welcome to make suggestions for future prompts. (Of course, if you do combine, them, no one’s going to yell at you, but your submission will only be linked once, and will be placed in whichever of the applicable categories has the fewest links at that moment).
Participants should post one comment per option with the following information:
- Name / Nickname (how you want to be listed)
- Prompt (poetry, freewrite, etc.)
- Post title
- Direct link
Note: this means that if you do more than one prompt in a month, you need to make multiple comments. This makes it easier for me to sort through them.
Participants’ links will be posted in a round-up entry that goes live as soon as possible after the first submission in a given month, and will be continually updated through the end of the month.
Participants are encouraged to link back to http://www.cafewriting.com in each response. Quoting the prompt is acceptable, but not required.
Participants who use blogging sites like yahoo, blogger, and livejournal should set their posts so that people who do not have logins to those sites can comment without any registration.
Please take some time and read the other submissions each month. No one’s going to quiz you, but the internet is about community as much as information, and if people are taking the time to participate - as you are - others should take the time to read.
The rules will likely be refined. Consider them guidelines for the moment. Suggestions are welcome.

Hey MissMeliss: Thanks for the invitation and link to your new writing blog. Will definitely consider participating . . . as this concept jives so well with chicken-scratch.
