November Project

In honor of NaNoWriMo our theme for November is writing. For guidelines, please see The Rules. Remember that you should comment on this post with your links, including the title of the piece that you wrote.

Option One: Can You Picture That?
Use the following royalty-free photo to inspire an entry in any form - fiction, essay, poetry. Please copy the photo to your own server if you want to include it in your post.

Option Two: Poetry

Human life, old and young, takes place between hope and remembrance. — Franz Grillparzer

Write a poem, in any form you choose, using that phrase as inspiration.

Option Three: Fiction

If my doctor told me I had only six minutes to live, I wouldn’t brood. I’d type a little faster. — Isaac Asimov

Write a short story, scene, or piece of flash-fiction about someone’s last six minutes of life.

Option Four: Timed Writing

Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass. — Anton Chekhov

Take nine minutes (you have to use all nine, you can’t go over), and create a text picture, using your best “show don’t tell” skills. Any format (fiction, essay, verse) is acceptable; and it’s expected that your writing will be raw, so don’t stress about editing.

Option Five: Seven Things

In improvisation, one of our exercises is a game called “Seven Things,” in which we go around in a circle giving each other the challenge, “Give me seven things that [whatever]” We are not going to go around in a circle, here, but if you’re drawn to lists, this prompt is for you.

Give me seven of your favorite words. You don’t have to explain them, but it’s more fun for readers if you do.

Option Six: Pick Three
Pick at least three of the following eight words, and write a paragraph, scene, flash-fic, essay, blog entry or poem using them. It’s fine to change tenses, or pluralize if you have to, but please bold the words you choose.

howl, scrawl, barrage, perplex, entice, agitate, nonsense, debauchery

Don’t forget to comment on this post with the direct link and title of each piece you create. Happy Writing!

I think we should be able to see the comments made by us and others. That makes interaction easier. Last time when I participated in October and visited most, none came to my blog for a return visit. For a writing network, that is not a good thing. Writers need each other’s support.

Visible to all comments might help us in that direction.

    My two penny bit.

This is for option three. I wrote this back in september but I really wanted to update the story every month and i never ended up posting the second chapter even though it’s pretty much finished. I think i’ll add a new chapter with every months entry here at cafe writing, but that’s an optimistic ambition.
